Graduation Project
The State of North Carolina has added a new requirement for graduation from high school in North Carolina - the Graduation Project. It includes four parts, all focused around one specific topic:
- A Research Paper - This will be a standard high school research paper, but the topic
must be closely related to the project you plan to work on.

- A Project - This will be a hands-on project completed outside of school. It should result in a
product that you can show (or take pictures of) for your final presentation.

- A Portfolio - This is simply a collection of all the papers, notes, pictures, and other items documenting your work on your project.

- A Presentation - This is the final step of your Graduation Project. You will tell a panel of adults from the community about your project.
You may choose to make posters, handouts, or a Powerpoint presentation to help tell your story.

Who has to do it?
All Granville Central High School students will be required to complete a Graduation Project in order to graduate.
- Remember - this is new to all of us. We'll have to work together to make it happen.

- Your teachers are here to help you. Tell someone if you are having trouble.

- The project is ultimately your responsibility, and it determines whether or not you graduate. Don't ignore it - it won't go away!

- The Graduation Project is a great opportunity. You pick your own topic - choose something exciting!
You can make it a positive experience with long-lasting benefits in your life.

Recommendations from Ms. Currin
- Find a good mentor. Think of an adult in your life who you admire and who likes you.
Think of a project related to their work or hobbies.

- Pick a good topic. Make sure it is something exciting so you don't
lose interest. You'll be working on it for about two years. Pick something that you would sort of like to do even if you didn't have to do it!

- Save every scrap. Your portfolio is just a collection of all the papers, pictures and documents you use to do your project.
Write everything down, and don't throw anything away! You can always sort and organize later, but for now - keep it all.

- Stay on top of it. Don't leave it to the last minute. It's not really that much work if you spread it out.
Do a little now, a little sooner, a little later.

- Have fun. This is your life. You have to do the project to graduate. Pick something you will enjoy.
